CARPET TRENDS FOR 2022

IS CARPET COMING BACK IN STYLE FOR 2022?

Carpet is making a welcome comeback for 2022.

Whichever room you are decorating, it’s worth making a fuss of the floor. In a living room, we recommend a statement rug or carpet. Not only will it ground the room but it can serve as the starting point from which to build the scheme. It’s a worthwhile investment, and your feet will thank you come winter.

1.        Patterned carpets are making a comeback

Until recently, carpets and rugs tended to be plain, neutral and for the bedroom only, but patterned carpets are now coming back into favour, and moving into the living room and dining room, too. In the right hands, patterned carpet designs are akin to introducing a work of art into a room and setting a strong design tone. Think of the floor as the room’s main canvas, says Lorna Haigh of Alternative Flooring.

A heavily patterned carpet will withstand room renovations for years to come because you can pick out different colours and design details to carry through to the wider scheme.’

2.       Use a bold carpet in small rooms

2022 will be the year of colour and creativity, so it is no surprise that a plethora of patterns will enter the design realm, but that is not to say that you can't use them in tiny homes.

Patterned carpets work well in smaller spaces – perfect for your bedroom carpet ideas. Where a busy pattern on a wall might be overwhelming, introducing a pattern on the floor with a patterned rug or carpet can add interest without taking over the space.

3.       Make a statement underfoot with carpet tiles

In the past, patterned carpets were thought to be the preserve of pubs and hotels, favoured for their ability to absorb stains and spillages rather than being a key design detail. These days, new designs are raising the game of wall-to-wall patterned carpets.

Designers are adept at creating carpets tiles and shapes that are akin to pieces of abstract art for the floor, so if you want the floor to be the room’s main canvas, these make a strong statement.

4.       Look beyond the walls when it comes to colour

Colour in a carpet or rug lifts a scheme from the floor up, which is a room’s main canvas.

5.       Lay down smart stripes

A smart stripe – whether wide or narrow – is a classic pattern that will visually elongate and widen a room, just as floorboards do. Striped floor coverings began to be introduced into homes about 10 years ago in a rather tentative way when the first collections arrived on the market.

Appreciated for their dirt-defying nature, stripes were initially confined to high-traffic areas, such as stairs, but their appeal is now spreading. Taking inspiration from the fabric world where stripes are everywhere, flooring has now caught up and offers a far greater choice of designs than ever before.

Staircase carpet ideas featuring stripes make a design statement as soon as you enter a house, but it needn’t be limited to this area. More people are finding the confidence to play with different breadths and scales throughout the house, from broad to ticking and pencil stripes.

Wall-to-wall broad stripes work well for living room carpet ideas and people are much more willing to experiment with breadth and scale. You can layer elements on top to soften the look, while still maintaining a bright and colourful feel to the space.

6.       Create a sense of calm with a neutral option

If you adore minimalism you will be pleased to know that decorating with neutrals are very much here to stay.

Choosing a carpet in a classic base note will bring a sense of calm to your living room ideas. A neutral shade is a wise investment too, as its versatility and longevity add value to your property. It will also make co-ordinating the flooring in different rooms a breeze – with a neutral palette, everything goes – enabling you to combine plains and subtle patterns, while keeping a consistent flow throughout the house.

7.       Warm up with pink and red colour scheme

Sensuous shades, from spicy chilli through to lush berry tones, will make a bold but beautiful statement in your home. A high-footfall area, such as a hallway or living room, is the ideal place to introduce a classic pattern, as it can help to disguise the effects of everyday wear. Choose hall and living room furniture with elegant lines and keep the rest of the scheme simple, so the floor provides all the impact.

1.      The cool tones of wood effect flooring is always popular. But this year warm and vibrant colours are trending – artistic patterns in arc and curved designs (as opposed to sharp angular heritage and Victorian style tiles).

 2.       A big trend is to combine flooring. Mixing wood and tile and mismatching shapes and textures. Combination flooring in an open plan space works well in differentiating spaces such as a formal dining room space or edging a fireplace.

 3.       Geometric Patterns – renovating old properties or styling a new build with the resurgence of heritage tiling – geometric LVT is huge this year and looks to remain popular in years to come, even though the newest trend of softer edges is certainly popular.

 4.       Neutral Tones – the benefits of neutral tones are many, with the biggest being that they allow you to be more creative / experimental with your other interior design and they allow you to change your décor as they match with so many more colours and effects – so if you like repainting or wallpapering regularly, a neutral tone will work best for you. The warmer colour trends of the past few years are now making way for cooler ashy tones.

 5.       Herringbone and Chevron Patterns – Herringbone has always been popular as it is a classic design and works perfectly well in small or large spaces.

Chevron is taking over the herringbone pattern in popularity as it is a more modern take on the classic. It is a very pleasing pattern that can showcase the wood effect planks really well.

2023 flooring styles should be clean, cool and uncomplicated and her at Suffolk Carpet Weavers Ltd, we can assist and support you through the whole process – from start to finish. If you are having one room fitted or an entire houseful of flooring, we will be there to help you.

Brockway carpets has launched its NEW Herdwick Herringbone Runners for 2022 that are made from the same Herdwick range – so now you can co-ordinate your runner with the Lakeland Herdwick range carpets available.

These runners are grown in Cumbria, spun in Yorkshire and woven in Kidderminster. They are woven using a combination of undyed wool yarns combined or paired with black, the colours reflect the earthy rustic palette of the Cumbrian hills and fells.

These runners are authentically British carpets that are rugged and durable due to the natural resilience of one of Britain’s best loved and hardiest sheep breeds.

By treating the floor as the ‘5th wall’, carpet is a fantastic way to introduce colour or pattern into your home. The floor should not be an after-thought, instead the entire room can be styled from the floor up!

Choosing a bright, bold contrasting colour or pattern in rich tones or geometrics, the carpet can be a way of self-expression. Or alternatively an earthy, organic natural carpet is something that will endure for many years.

Almost all carpet manufacturers have ranges covering both styles and the choice then falls on the individual and it should be considered next to the other 4 walls. Some trends currently taking hold are below. These can bring great joy and comfort to a person when used correctly.

1.      The natural option

2.      Eco-chic

3.      Hotel Luxe

4.      Bold and Bright

5.      Maximalism

6.      Pattern Play

7.      Geometrics

8.      Jewel Tones

The Christmas tree is up and the sheep kindly donated by www.hughmackay.com are helping to create the festive cheer in the showroom. We have decided to have a wool theme this year at Suffolk Carpet Weavers, and have made the hats for the sheep and the pom poms for the Christmas Tree. The wool theme has been chosen because we buck the trend of most carpet retailers and sell mostly woollen carpets which we have starting from as little as £16.99 per square metre. We stock synthetics too at various prices but our customers seem to prefer wool.

Pop into our showroom to take a look around at all of our ranges. We have a large two-storey showroom in Old Martlesham that has many ranges and styles. Call us or pop in.

Grey is the on-trend colour that we are all wanting. Grey is amazing and its versatility is what makes it so popular.

Each era has a trend. The 80s were chintz and busy or magnolia. The 70s were bright garish patterns with clashing colours.

Now we have greys and monochromes that can be made edgy and modern or charming country home.

Greys can be calming and soothing or vivid, lively and energetic. It can be added to warmer neutrals, add a sophisticated understated pattern or you can add a shot of bright colour to keep it modern.

When looking at interior designs and colour charts there are a myriad of possibilities and colours. From the dark brooding shades like Charcoal, Greystoke or Granite to the light charming shades like Frosted Silver, Aluminium or Cape Diamond.

In the carpet world, we also have the options of pattern and textures. They come in stripes and tartans or geometric patterns and different textures like twists, loops, herringbones, velvets, wools and synthetics. The beauty of carpets is that so many colours are available in so many different budgets.

At Suffolk Carpet Weavers, we have a huge variety of ranges to choose from. Come into the showroom to have a look at the ranges and get advise if needed. Unit 5 Bridge Business Park, Top Street, Old Martlesham, IP12 4RB or call 01394 610202.
